Courage to Be You, Inc. (C2BU) believes that each and every life not only has value, but a God-given purpose and destiny. C2BU’s purpose is to equip, encourage and empower individuals to be all they were created to be and do all they were designed to do – nothing more – but absolutely refusing to settle for anything less and then to encourage everyone in their lives to do the same. It seems we have our work cut out for us.
An Epidemic in Our Society
Surveys abound of statistical data broadcasting the symptoms of an apparent epidemic in our society. Depression, divorce, infidelity, addiction, criminal behavior, suicide, earlier and earlier sexual experience among teens, increased drug and alcohol use, eating disorders … all of these are symptoms of this epidemic. The epidemic doesn’t appear to favor one race, economic or social class. Age appears to be no factor either. Going to church and believing in God doesn’t seem to vaccinate a person from the symptoms. What is this epidemic called? Some mental health professionals call it “low-self esteem” but we at C2BU call it “a lack of purpose”. With the severity, frequency and commonality of the symptoms, it seems to have become the norm in our culture.
It Was Not the Plan
There is nothing sadder and nothing further from God’s plans for humanity …
“I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to give you hope and a future.”
-Jeremiah 29:11
“Before I shaped you in the womb I knew you, before you saw the light I had plans for you.” -Jeremiah 1:5
Per God, there is a plan, a divine purpose for every life. Each and every human life was “created on purpose for a purpose™”. Could discovering and fulfilling that purpose be the cure for this epidemic and its symptoms? We believe so.
The Cure
“Make a careful exploration of you who are, what you were created for and then just do it.” Galatians 6:5 The last part of that verse goes even further with this idea “each of us must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life”. This sounds like the Nike commercial “just do it®”. But we know it isn’t that simple or that easy. We all need encouragement, we all need courage to be who we were created by God to be. That is our organizational purpose – providing resources and rescue programs for just that. We want to change the world … one individual at a time.
